We invented the key to enterprise agility
Alignment of business and IT has proven to be a challenge for decades. As a consequence of the rising interest in BPM, organizations have started to model their organizations and processes for the first time. And hence, the gap between a company’s desire for more automation and the inflexibility of its heterogeneous, incrementally grown operational IT become quickly evident.
E2E and IDS Scheer, the global leader in BPM, have recognized that BPM has to go hand in hand with SOA and EDA enablement. Given both companies’ belief in the power of models – IDS for analysis and planning, E2E on the execution side – the ARIS Bridge Integration initiative was started in spring 2005 to explore the possibilities of using ARIS EPC and BPMN models to drive the execution runtime of a modern SOA/EDA application infrastructure – without coding or code generation.
In 2007, the ARIS Bridge Integration reached a breakthrough which was unique across the industry. For the first time ever, it is possible to use ARIS EPC, BPMN and UML models as the exclusive source, not only to define business processes and their KPIs, but to build complex mission critical business applications. In addition to the total transparency from process to application, the high performance Model Execution capabilities of the E2E Bridge brings also a drastic reduction of IT infrastructure complexity, while simultaneously reducing the maintenance cost for process change requests.
Used in tandem, the ARIS Platform together with the E2E Bridge offer organizations of all sizes unprecedented IT flexibility, resulting in drastically improved business agility.
An industry first: ARIS model execution for SOA/EDA enablement
With the Bridge 4 Process, ARIS users can directly use their process models as input to drive process execution and service orchestration. The E2E Bridge facilitates direct import of ARIS EPC and BPMN models, which are then transformed into executable UML State Charts to configure the high-performance State Engine of the E2E Bridge. Technical enrichment of the high-level process models coming from ARIS is then performed at the level of UML models, covering all application flow control, business logic and backend interface access.
A particular strength is the methodological choice to allow business analysts and IT specialists to continue to use their preferred modeling semantic. After all, both camps have different requirements. And while IT specialists can enhance and enrich the process models from ARIS, they cannot change the imported process core. This ensures that business and IT share ONE common master blueprint – a key ingredient fostering maximum transparency, a solid foundation for continuous collaboration and in the end – total flexibility and process agility.
The ARIS Bridge Integration Ecosystem
Simplified integration: generic KPI extraction for ARIS PPM
Given the heterogeneous IT landscape of most organizations, appropriate KPI extraction is a challenge. Similar in complexity to application and SOA integration, accessing backends to feed key parameters into BAM and MIS tools is a major undertaking, in particular given the massive number of in-house developed legacy applications for which no up-to-date interface documentation is available.
The Bridge 4 Interfaces solves this problem by providing ARIS PPM users with generic interface bridging capabilities. Backend interfaces and functional access points are automatically analyzed to reconstruct executable interface descriptors in form of UML. Given the extremely rapid development cycles, both IT backends as well as the processes can be changed without impacting each other. Since all interfaces are permanently documented in their production state, change management is transparent – and fast – as never before.
Capability highlights of the ARIS Bridge Integration
- Business and IT share ONE executable blueprint
- Transforms ARIS into a mission-critical SOA/EDA platform
- Model execution means: the documentation IS the code
- KPI management from design through to IT operations
- Universal KPI extraction for ARIS PPM
