Bayer Group, E2E, ENMAX, McGregor Golf and VALE Among Companies Honored with Business Process Excellence (BPE) Awards at ARIS ProcessWorld 2008

Orlando, FL, February 15, 2008

IDS Scheer (www.ids-scheer.com), the leading provider of Business Process Management (BPM), today announced the winners of its prestigious Business Process Excellence (BPE) Awards at its annual ARIS ProcessWorld 2008 Americas conference. The following companies, which made outstanding efforts to improve their business performance, were among those honored at an awards ceremony yesterday evening to cap the first day of the conference: Bayer Group, E2E (E2EBridge.com) , McGregor Golf, ENMAX and VALE.

The BPE Awards recognize thought leaders in the industry for applying innovative business process optimization measures and the use of the tools and methods to achieve business process excellence. Winners were selected in the following six categories: Business-driven SOA Management; Enterprise Architecture Management; Partner Innovation; Process-driven SAP Management; Process Intelligence and Performance Management; and Small and Medium Enterprises.

"What a better way to end our first day of ARIS ProcessWorld 2008 than to honor those forward-thinking companies who are taking IDS Scheer products and consulting services to the pinnacle of innovation," said Thomas Volk, CEO & President, IDS Scheer AG. "We congratulate all the winners for their hard work and dedication to improving their company’s business performance by taking a process-oriented approach."

The following provides an overview of the selected BPE Award-winning implementations:

  • Enterprise Architecture Management — VALE: A global company with headquarters in Brazil, VALE is the world’s second largest diversified mining company in market capitalization and the world’s largest producer and exporter of iron ore and pellets employing more than 130,000 worldwide. Since 2003, VALE used its own enterprise architecture methodology and framework using a repository based on Microsoft Office documents. The initial driver for the project was to improve the Architecture (IT and Business) mapping with the automation of the repository, which would provide online access to multiple users and facilitate actual correlation of architecture artifacts. Leveraging the ARIS Design Platform, the EA experts at IDS Scheer helped VALE: create integrated process and IT architecture management; enable technical architecture and system portfolio reviews; develop the capability to construct an IT and business future vision; and provide an executive view of Enterprise Architecture. Most importantly, the culmination of the implementation was a companywide solution for VALE Group that included worldwide collaborative use, multi-language, and one central repository.
  • Process-driven SAP Management — ENMAX Corporation: In May 2007, ENMAX Energy Corporation in Calgary, Alberta began implementing SAP's CRM and Industry Specific Solution for Utilities (SAP IS-U). ENMAX was challenged to break the traditional thinking of starting from scratch on the development of business processes. The utility leveraged ARIS for SAP NetWeaver to draw from existing SAP Solution Manager-based best practice reference libraries. The ASAP (AcceleratedSAP) methodology was adopted, and ARIS for SAP NetWeaver was selected as the best tool to save time and effort integrating with Solution Manager. Using ARIS, the Business Architecture team provided immediate project value within the Blueprinting activities. In addition, the tool cut many hundreds of hours from the time typically spent linking process objects to an established corporate process hierarchy, and immediately provided the foundational process models necessary for a solution integration center. ENMAX accrued time and effort payoffs associated with the use of ARIS for SAP NetWeaver, and overcame both technical and human challenges while bringing new technology into the organization.
  • Process Intelligence and Performance Management — Bayer Group: Bayer is a global enterprise with core competencies in the fields of health care, nutrition and high-tech materials. Bayer MaterialScience AG is a renowned supplier of high-performance materials and innovative system solutions used in a wide range of products for everyday life. Bayer Business Services (BBS) is the Bayer Group’s international competence center for IT-based services. Searching for a Business Process Analysis solution, Bayer Business Services and Bayer MaterialScience opted for ARIS PPM, which was included in the Bayer MaterialScience box of analysis tools after a successful pilot phase. It has since proven itself in several projects, including the EMEA no-touch order (NTO) project, aiming to identify and eliminate unplanned manual interventions and non-automated process steps in the order-to-cash process. At the same time, these processes will be further standardized and – where appropriate – automated. ARIS PPM identifies these “slim-line” NTO processes and facilitates more in-depth analyses. Analysis of changes in the customer order ideally leads to identifying measures to increase the proportion of NTO. The use of ARIS PPM is a result of sustainable process consulting by Bayer Business Services. Use of the solution at other Bayer subgroups is now underway.Bayer Business Services also sees the necessity and added value of extending automated process monitoring: Timely monitoring of exceptions within business processes and activities helps its customers in the Bayer group to avoid problems in advance and to take corrective actions much quicker. For this reason, BBS worked closely with IDS Scheer in the development of ARIS PEM and identified a number of benefits of using the tool.
  • Small to Medium Enterprises — MacGregor Golf: MacGregor Golf, one of the oldest golf companies in the world, has a storied 110-year history filled with innovation and PGA Tour success, including a record 59 Majors. Based in Albany, Georgia, MacGregor Golf uses the world's most advanced technologies to create golf equipment that makes the game easier and more fun for all golfers. To handle tremendous company growth, MacGregor needed a world-class ERP system, but wanted a fast implementation with minimal risk. In only four months, MacGregor implemented ARIS SmartPath for Durable Goods solution, based on SAP Business All-in-One. Utilizing the solutions, MacGregor Golf improved its customer order entry system and has begun to take advantage of lean manufacturing practices. The company uses ARIS SmartPath to address industry-specific processes, such as forecasting, demand management, product development, sales opportunity tracking, and reporting functionality in a consumer goods environment. Based on the success in the United States, the solution was also rolled out to the company’s offices in Japan and the United Kingdom.
  • Partner Innovation — E2E: IDS Scheer partner E2E is the pioneer in Model Execution and Model Driven Integration (MDI) software. Working in collaboration with IDS Scheer, E2E helped Intrum Justitia, Europe's leading Credit Management Services (CMS) company, complete a groundbreaking business transformation initiative after a nine-month rollout of the ARIS Bridge integration from both companies. To achieve the highest levels of IT flexibility for ongoing process automation, Intrum used the ARIS Bridge integration to rewrite its proprietary ReCash application by migrating legacy PL/SQL code into nearly 1,000 executable UML models. The end result is that Intrum now holds the distinction as the world’s first business application based exclusively on direct execution of UML and ARIS EPC models – without coding or code generation. The success of the joint effort that combines the might of the ARIS Platform with E2E Bridge Model Execution has prompted Intrum to designate the ARIS Bridge integration as its strategic application platform.
